Aggie visits a beautiful, peaceful Japanese Zen-style restaurant nestled halfway up the mountainside in Beitou, Taipei. See how this vegetarian-friendly hideaway provides a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Marshal Zen Garden has been named one of the "World's Best Restaurants" by France’s “La Liste.” The site boasts a Zen-style restaurant housed inside a historic Japanese building, and its grounds offer hot springs, a tea house and a Japanese garden. All of these features make the location a perfect place to relax and restore the mind, body and soul. The Marshal Zen Garden was once home to historic figure General Chang Hsueh-liang, who lived on the grounds with his wife Chao Yi-ti. Chang lived from 1901-2001, leading many to emulate his lifestyle in hopes they will also be granted a long life. The restaurant’s vegan set meal is inspired by General Chang Hsueh-liang's dietary preferences, and its vegetarian food options are both healthy and refreshing. A wide array of menu options make the site a vegetarian-friendly choice for visitors from abroad. After enjoying the restaurant’s vegan set meal, or tempting snacks like their fennel spring roll and lion’s mane mushroom sukiyaki, visitors can soak their feet in the nourishing waters of Taiwan’s Beitou hot springs. When visiting, the hot springs in Taiwan are not to be missed. Come see all this historic site has to offer in this week’s episode of Veggie Island!
