Aggie heads to Yilan, Taiwan to try out a farm-to-table restaurant with diverse Asian-inspired dishes that are all the rage among local vegetarians. Southeast Asian flavors are on the menu this week, as host Aggie Hsieh (謝沛恩) travels to Yilan, Taiwan and samples dishes made from fresh, locally-grown produce. Vegetarian restaurant Eatdansu (一簞食) collaborates with local farmers to have fresh produce delivered to the restaurant daily. The owners even have a small farm next door where they grow some ingredients themselves, including the indica rice used to make the restaurant’s signature rice ball meal. Other dishes on the menu include rice cakes with tomato sambal sauce (a spicy, flavorful Southeast Asian sauce made from Momotaro tomatoes) and the restaurant’s signature summer offering, the avocado donburi rice bowl with wasabi plum soy sauce. The chef-owners strive to make their menu not only nourishing but also uniquely delicious. To achieve this, they incorporate elements not commonly found in Taiwanese vegetarian dishes, such as protein-rich tempeh, coconut milk and masala curry. Eatdansu’s mouthwatering dishes are fresh, flavorful, and support local farmers. Stop by on your next trip to Yilan, Taiwan for the full vegetarian farm-to-table experience.
