Taipei, Taiwan is a city of hiking trails. Don’t believe us? Discover two amazing trails that you can find on the Taipei Metro. Get ready for a new episode of City Escape! Andre checks out two trails north of Taipei City, Taiwan, one in Beitou District and the other in Shilin District. Both trails are accessible from the Red Line on the Taipei MRT with our first trail taking us to Qilian MRT Station. The Battleship Rock or Junjianyan Trail owes its unique natural formations to its proximity to the dormant volcano group in Yangmingshan National Park. The trail starts at the Yangming University campus and leads up an easy path for spectacular city views, a small peak and a ridge hike. This trail is perfect for all levels and has some great spots for some memorable photos. The second trail Andre tackles is in Taipei’s Shilin District. A short walk from Jiantan MRT Station on the Red Line of the Taipei Metro lies Jiantan Mountain, a trail that offers spectacular and unique city views. Andre starts at the historic Water Shrine and shows us the special way to get to the trailhead and the start of this adventure. Andre checks out one stop after another of stunning city views whilst he immerses himself in nature. Finally, Andre arrives at a special viewing area to watch the planes at Songshan Airport. To end the hike, Andre heads to the famous Shilin Night Market to get a snack and share his thoughts on this trail.
