Escape the bustle of the city, and discover enjoyable day hikes on the Lingjiaoliao Mountain Trail and Paozilun Waterfall Trail. Immerse yourself in the soothing sounds of nature in this episode of City Escape. Andre heads to Wanggu, Pingxi, New Taipei City to explore a special mountain trail that follows the historic railway line. Wanggu is a former miner’s village that still maintains some unique features from its past mining days. Discover the mining history of Pingxi District while immersing yourself in nature on this forest trail. First, Andre heads to nearby Wanggu Falls to get his first dip into nature. After enjoying the falls it’s time to head onto the trail proper and enjoy a hike through Lingjiaoliao Peak (273 m), then onto Lingjiaoliao Waterfall. Along the way, Andre immerses himself in nature and enjoys the sights and sounds of the trail. Trains to Wanggu run on the local Pingxi line, but you can also get the Pingxi Route tourist bus 795 from Muzha towards Shifen. Be aware that transport finishes early, so don’t forget to check the timetable. Next up is a waterfall trail close to the city in Shenkeng District, New Taipei City. Shenkeng Old Street is famous for its stinky tofu and is a popular tourist destination for people who want to experience a well-preserved historic old street. However, this isn’t what Andre is in Shenkeng for today. He’s here to explore another part of Shenkeng District, its hiking trails. As a district with plenty of mountains, peaks and lush forests to explore, yet still close to Taipei City, Shenkeng is the perfect location for a day hike. More specifically, the Paozilun Waterfall Trail is the best for an easy hike, with a waterfall to enjoy at the end. To add a bit extra to this hike Andre also explores the Paozilun Ancient Trail that leads to a lookout with a beautiful view. Shenkeng is easy to get to from Taipei, simply get a bus from Muzha (660, 666, 679, 795, 819) to Shenkeng. If you’re feeling inspired, it’s time to grab your gear and get out on the trails for a City Escape!
