Discover a diverse trail system with many day hikes suitable for all levels in the heart of Taipei City, Taiwan. These routes boast spectacular city skyline views while remaining immersed in nature. It’s time for another City Escape! Taipei City, Taiwan is situated in a basin surrounded by mountains. This means there are many scenic trails that you can access directly from the heart of the city. One such trail network is in the Four Beasts Mountain (Si-Shou Shan), easily accessible from Xiangshan MRT station on the Red Line. This time, Andre checks out one of Taipei’s most famous city hikes but takes a slightly easier (and quieter) path to Elephant Mountain (Xiangshan). Andre starts his hike at Yongchungang Park which can be reached by taking the MRT to Xiangshan Station and then bus 299 to Yongchun High School. From Yongchungang Park, Andre gets some amazing city views and takes in the highlights of this trail including “A Thread of Sky” and the “Six Giant Rocks.” He then moves on to Elephant Mountain Peak which boasts some of the best views of Taipei 101 and the city. He finishes this trail by exploring Yongchun Pavilion and another viewing area, the Fireworks Platform where he reflects on this part of the hike. Andre also explores another part of the Four Beasts Mountain, the Tiger Mountain trail. He starts along the pretty Tiger Mountain Creek Trail. This trail winds up to Four Beasts Square which has an interesting monument to the four beasts that give the names to this trail system. From here Andre makes his way to Fuxing Garden, a relaxing spot to view the city while enjoying nature. He finishes the daylight portion of this trail at the Tiger Mountain Trail viewing platform. After Andre enjoys the sunset he checks out the fireflies on the Tiger Mountain Ecological Trail. If you want to check out the fireflies, Tiger Mountain’s firefly season is around late March to early April. Tiger Mountain is close to downtown Taipei, so it’s easy to find your way once you finish your hike and there are plenty of places to find food and drink.
