Take a journey into nature on this exciting day hike that features three waterfalls. Even better, it starts in Taiwan’s famous cat village, Houtong. Discover this exciting hike among lush landscapes on this episode of “City Escape.” Ruifang District is an hour north of Taipei, easily accessed by bus or train. This relatively challenging (but rewarding) hike from Houtong to Sandiaoling in Ruifang District, New Taipei City. Houtong originally went viral online for its numerous cats and draws many tourists each year. Ending in Sandiaoling, the hike passes through some well-maintained jungle trails that are perfect for experiencing Taiwan’s lush landscapes and misty mountains. This trail boasts spectacular views and three beautiful waterfalls: Motian Waterfall, Pipa Cave Waterfall and Hegu Waterfall. A particular highlight on this trail is Pipa Cave Waterfall, a giant overhang that in the rainy season is host to a stunning waterfall.
