Hiking Taiwan’s coastline is extremely rewarding, in this episode of City Escape discover two easy trails with spectacular sea views to enjoy on your next hike. Andre starts the day at Bitoujiao or Bitou Cape, in Ruifang District, New Taipei City. This route takes Andre around the cape on an easy trail and returns to Bitou harbor along the ridge where he enjoys stunning panoramic views of the coastline. Along the way, Andre discovers a little bit of history as well as a café with spectacular views of the sea. This trail takes roughly three hours and is well-paved so it’s suitable for all levels. There are plenty of buses that bring you right to Bitou Cape, if you want to drive be sure to arrive early as this is a popular spot for hiking even on weekdays. The second hike is along Taiwan’s stunning coastline at Longdong Bay in Gongliao District, New Taipei City. Another easy trail, the Longdong Bay Cape Trail is a well-paved route that lets you simply enjoy the breathtaking views along the coast. Andre starts the hike at Hemei Elementary School and takes a relaxing stroll along the coastline. There are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the views, so if you plan to come remember to bring plenty of snacks and water. Besides hiking, Longdong is a great spot for rock climbing, diving and all sorts of watersports. At the end of the hike, Andre takes to a stand-up paddleboard and reflects on the day’s adventure.
