Today’s hike, the Fishermen’s Trail, is an iconic route from Jinshan on the north coast of Taiwan to Taipei. Steeped in history and abundant nature, it’s time to discover a new route on City Escape. Yangmingshan National Park in the north of Taipei, Taiwan comprises many different trails and districts. The Fishermen’s Trail takes its name from the path that the fishers in Jinshan used to travel to sell their fish in Taipei. This historical route takes in many different sights from the harbor at the start of the hike to the heights of Yangmingshan. This route through the forest is steeped in history from stories of fishermen and coal miners to people carrying tea leaves to the teahouses in Dadaocheng. Some key historical sights on the route Andre visits include Xuyan Bridge, a stone quarry, Hanbing Residence and much more. He then continues his climb up to Jinbaoli Gate in Yangmingshan, the official marker of entering Taipei City. Here Andre encounters the so-called “120 slopes,” a winding path that leads to Jinbaoli Gate and Qingtiangang. The varied terrain and unique vistas of this part of the hike let you know you are hiking in the Datun Volcano Group. Once Andre reaches Jinbaoli Gate, the vast Qingtiangang grasslands await. Andre finishes the hike with the views and nature of the grasslands and reflects on the day’s trail.
