Happy Fisherman EP45: The Fishing Boat and Architecture of the Tao People

Reporter/Provider - TaiwanPlus
Publish Date -

The traditional fishing boat of Tao people instantiates the Austronesian maritime culture that has thrived for millenniums on Orchid Island. Not only is the making of the fishing boat a painstaking process that requires the best craftmanship and selected wood, but it is also a sacred ritual that adheres to certain religious customs. The architecture of Tao people too reflects their surroundings, which is characterized by a subterranean design that provides shelter from Typhoon and insulation against the cold.
