Happy Fisherman Ep58: Delving Into Fixed Net Fishing in Northern Taiwan
Zhaoyang Fishing Harbor in northern Taiwan boasts a long tradition of fixed net operation, where massive nets are anchored off the coast to serve as fishing weirs. This fishing method is applied nine months a year, excluding only the typhoon season. Leo joins a group of Taiwanese and Indonesian fishers on their daily harvest from the fixed nets. As the nets are retracted, fish are funneled into a narrower area, where fishers fish up their catch with relative ease. The catch would then be sold at a pop-up market at the harbor. Join Leo as he explores the amazing details of fixed net operation.
