As the only Indigenous people inhabiting the outlying islands of Taiwan, the Tao people celebrate a vibrant maritime culture, which could be seen in their unique swimming training system and canoe. At the annual canoe competition, all the best swimmers and seafarers from the six villages of Orchid Island participate in the event.
