Modern Big Band Jazz Reimagines Classic Tunes-Resound Ep. 2
Experience the power of big band jazz and modern jazz with the Taipei Jazz Orchestra (TJO), Taiwan’s premier jazz ensemble. Led by renowned saxophone solo artist Lee Cheng-yu, TJO masterfully blends the high-energy swing of American big band traditions with unique Taiwanese cultural influences. This performance highlights the technical brilliance of a full jazz orchestra, featuring a diverse repertoire that ranges from high-octane funk and Latin rhythms to a New Orleans-inspired Dixieland rendition of "Peach Blossom Tears Blood"—Taiwan’s very first jazz pop hit from 1931. From technical precision to soulful improvisation, TJO delivers a world-class auditory experience that bridges the gap between classic heritage and contemporary innovation. "Resound" is a TaiwanPlus original series that showcases Taiwan’s rich and varied musical landscape. We highlight a wide array of professionally performed genres and the diverse artists behind them—from classical virtuosos and contemporary singer-songwriters to jazz bands and a cappella groups telling stories unique to Taiwan. We believe that exceptional music is worth resounding over and over again.
