Taiwanese Folk Tunes: A Heartfelt Revival - Resound Ep2
There is a certain magic in the simple, wistful melodies and lyrics of Taiwanese folk music that has yet to be heard outside of Taiwan. However, not only do they hold connections to the island; the music is also an important part of the people’s identity. In this two-part special, host Morris Chen shares the history and significance of 10 well-known Taiwanese folk tunes. He not only invites the audience to savor this unique musical journey that combines classical with traditional Taiwanese music but also tells the stories behind each piece. In the second episode, musicians from all over Taiwan are invited to perform folk tunes in a reinvigorated form. Two of these songs were performed in the Western operatic style by Ms. Ching-ju Lin, soprano, and accompanied by Ms. Hsin-jung Hsieh on piano.
