What does Taiwan sound like to you? What genre of music would you associate “Taiwanese music” with? In this final episode of this season of ‘Resound,’ we present you a repertoire of music that reflects Taiwan’s land, people and history. From a traditional ballad of the Indigenous Bunun people, performed by the all-Indigenous children’s choir Vox Nativa Taiwan, to the familiar ‘Argonaise from Carmen Suite’ presented to you by the soulful Taiwan Top Contrabasses Ensemble; this episode is sonically as diverse Taiwan claims itself to be. 3PeopleMusic also bring a lively performance of ‘Cloudy Day,’ one of Taiwan’s most well-known folk melodies, to the table. Once again, with just three musicians, this ensemble revitalizes traditional musical instruments unlike any other. Similarly, The Glory of Organ and Brass Ensemble showcase their musicianship of Medieval instruments with a tune that is reminiscent of the island’s history when the Dutch and other voyagers first discovered this island that they called “beautiful island.” ‘Resound’ is a TaiwanPlus original series that hopes to present Taiwan’s varied musical landscape. Not only are there a wide array of musical genres that are being professionally performed here, but the kinds of musical groups performing them are just as diverse. From classical musicians to contemporary artists that exhibit their talent in both musicianship and songwriting, to jazz bands and acapella groups who tell tales unique to Taiwan. We believe that good music is worth resounding over and over again.
