Taiwanese Brass Quintet’s Exquisite Performance of Music That Heals - Resound Ep7
Who doesn’t love brass instruments? Especially with a classic quintet ensemble set-up, the allure of a brass ensemble couldn’t get any stronger. The sonics of a brass quintet immediately paints a picture that is hopeful, bright, yet sometimes somber and melancholy. It’s one of many reasons why pieces like Sonata from Die Bankelsangerlieder and La Cumparsita by M. Rodriguez continue to be played throughout the world, even Asia. Largely reminiscent of war-time music or tunes that evoke images of the post-WWII era, a brass quintet ensemble is always a feast for the ears. When speaking of a brass quintet in the modern day and age, many might think of the Chicago-based Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. However, Taiwan Glory Brass is one to watch in 2024. Just two years into their musical career, this new musical group consist of the top classical music talents of Taiwan. Their exquisite performances are at times reminiscent of the American brass ensemble that was highly popular in the 1950s, and yet Taiwan Glory Brass has fully embraced the variety of musical influences that each member has been exposed to—resulting in performances of a plethora of genres including jazz, folk, pop, and ethnic melodies. In a day and age of increasing pressures and fearmongers, music that heals seems more important than ever. Though classical music is a genre that’s not necessarily adored by all, there’s a reason why it is still enjoyed since it first appeared more than a millennium ago. And though brass quintets like Taiwan Glory Brass haven’t been around for long when considering the long history of Western classical music, it sure provides peace to the ears and a haven for the soul.
