This Taiwanese Trio Performs Contemporary Music with Chinese Instruments Ep3
Three People Music—stylized as ‘3PeopleMusic’—is a trio that transcends our knowledge of traditional music and instruments. In contrast to their rather straight-forward name, 3PeopleMusic’s music often surprises listeners with the versatility of what three traditional Chinese instruments can do. Indeed, their performances are often uncommon even for modern compositions with Chinese instruments. The sounds of the guzheng, ruan, dizi and xiao are all rather simple and melodically straight-forward. But when performed together creatively, new sonics emerge. As a trio that performs musical genres reminiscent of contemporary music, world music and even jazz, 3PeopleMusic is a force to behold despite their timid size. ‘Resound’ is a TaiwanPlus original series that hopes to present Taiwan’s varied musical landscape. Not only are there a wide array of musical genres that are being professionally performed here, but the kinds of musical groups performing them are just as diverse. From classical musicians to contemporary artists that exhibit their talent in both musicianship and songwriting, to jazz bands and acapella groups who tell tales unique to Taiwan. We believe that good music is worth resounding over and over again. MUSICIANS Guzheng / Leader | Kuo Jing-mu Ruan / Music Producer | Pan I-tung Dizi and Xiao / Musical Director | Jen Chung
