This Artist Looks at the World Through an Animal’s Eyes - Art Echo Ep7
Lo Sheng-wen is a Taiwanese artist born in 1987 who is now based in the Netherlands. His work primarily investigates the relationships between non-humans and contemporary society. While pursuing his M.A. in the Electrical Engineering Department at National Taiwan University, he began to consider what it means to be human, and his relationship with animals and different ecological environments. Lo eventually stepped away from a career as an electrical engineer to study art in Europe. His practice now encompasses still and moving images, installations, games, and various media. “White Bear” uses still images and cinematography to record the plight of polar bears in captivity at international zoos. Other artistic reflections on the environment include projects like “Pedigree Human” (2013) and “Fallout” (2018).
