Choreographing Stories From The Ramayana - Art Echo Ep10
Taiwanese choreographer, Chen Wu-kang, and Thai dancer, Pichet Klunchun, co-produced “Choreographing Story” in 2023, based on the Ramayana, an ancient epic that’s deeply intertwined with Southeast Asian life and culture. The piece breaks with conventional narrative structures to challenge audiences’ attitude towards questions and answers along with their intuitive expectations of dance. The significance and technique behind their performance attempts to demonstrate that power of interpretation. In reflecting on his life experience, Chen Wu-kang has proven that we live according to how we interpret the world. Art Echo follows the rehearsal process and premiere for “Choreographing Story” while exploring how the life experience of a choreographer becomes the invisible hand driving their performance arc.
