World Building with Light, Shadow and Sound - Art Echo Ep13
Lighting designer Jiang Chi-yang always leaves the night sky for the stars. His designs aim to help people understand that lighting isn’t always about brightness. They key is using the interplay with depth of shadows to create an illusion. A fascination with 16mm film during his university days led him to a ten-year career in stage design at Cloud Gate Theatre. Jiang later converted Min-Hsin Dental Clinic into We Do Lighting Group to honor his grandfather’s legacy and to experiment with light as a medium of historical preservation. Cheng Zhou is a three-time Gold Horse Award Winner for Best Sound Effects. The recording engineer, sound designer, and mixer has learned to appreciate the sounds of everyday life. His skill in using sound to set the stage for a film is born from his childhood memories, studies in France, and outlook on life. Art Echo follows as both artists explain their unique approach to world building in cinema and beyond.
