Fake Voice Dating Scam

Police in Taiwan have busted an online scam that used AI-powered voice changers to trick over 20,000 people.
The scam began in 2022 and targeted people on dating apps. The scammers posed as real users and asked their targets for money and expensive gifts. They employed women to meet with their targets to build trust. In this way, the ring swindled more than US$28 million. Prosecutors say the ringleaders are a husband and wife couple. They’ve been charged along with 55 other people connected to the operation.

Police have busted an online romance scam that used AI-powered voice changers to dupe over 20,000 people out of money.
The scam began in 2022 and targeted users of major dating apps. Fake accounts asked for sums of money and expensive gifts, with real women sent on dates with victims to further build trust. The scam group netted more than US$28 million from victims. Prosecutors have indicted 57 people in connection with the group, are seeking sentence of 25 and 18 years each for the husband and wife pair at the center of the operation.
