Taiwan’s Drug Laws: Higher Penalties for Drug-Driving

REPORTER:
Taiwan is set to introduce stiffer penalties for drivers caught under the influence of drugs.

Proposed legal changes would allow police to fine drivers up to $8,500 US dollars and confiscate their vehicles for refusing roadside drug tests. Repeat offenders could have their licenses revoked, face mandatory addiction-treatment courses, and have their names and photographs published. The transport ministry said 23 people were killed in drug-driving incidents in the first half of 2026.
