Legislator's Aide Skips Bail Awaiting Trial for Fraud and Helping China

An aide to lawmaker Kao Chin Su-mei has skipped bail, having been charged along with others with embezzlement, helping import unapproved Chinese COVID-19 kits and with helping Beijing advance its aims in Taiwan. Chang Chun-chieh is missing after police found his electronic tag, which had been forcefully removed. The Taipei District Court has issued a warrant for his arrest. Chang faces up to 16 years in prison if found guilty of the charges against him.
