New Taipei prosecutors have charged 10 people with illegally exporting military-grade US chips to China. The suspects are accused of using Taiwan’s top military research agency as an authorized end user to obtain the restricted hardware before relabeling the chips as “Made in Taiwan” and reselling them to buyers in Hong Kong. Authorities say the operation generated nearly US$10 million in illegal proceeds and that the chips were ultimately destined for China’s defense industry.
