A retired officer with Taiwan's National Security Bureau, surnamed Shih, has been indicted for passing information to China. Prosecutors say Shih, who now runs a travel business in Palau, was aware that retired intelligence officers are barred from working for hostile foreign forces but leaked information anyway. The leaks reportedly included intelligence on Palau's support for Taiwan's 2021 World Health Assembly bid and details on Taiwan's delegation to a 2022 marine conservation conference. Taiwanese prosecutors have indicted 58 people for espionage since 2025, half of them active or retired service members.
