Eugenie Liu is a young Taiwanese actress who graduated with a degree in Journalism. When she was at college, she loved sports so much that she was hailed as the “goddess of the Physical Education Department.” Discovered by the “godmother of pop idol drama” Angie Chai in 2015, Liu embarked on her acting career and took part in many acclaimed TV dramas and films. In 2017, she set aside the concern for her image and played Older Monster in “Mon Mon Mon Monsters” directed by Giddens Ko, shattering people’s stereotype of beautiful women. Influenced by her father, a taekwondo coach, Liu demonstrated her strength and agility in the film “The 9th Precinct” and the Netflix original series “Triad Princess.” In 2023, Liu played a secretary in the 1990s in “Old Fox” directed by Hsiao Ya-chuan, her interpretation of a charming, feminine woman who was older than Liu herself not only surprised the audience but won her a Golden Horse Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. In 2024, Liu had the long hair she kept for years cut off and wore a buzz cut to play a lesbian who died, leaving a frozen embryo behind in “Daughter’s Daughter;” as the daughter, Liu vividly conveyed the tension and emotional struggle with her mother in the film, and her acting earned her another Golden Horse Award nomination. As Liu received a Golden Horse Award nomination for two successive years, many more people spotted her potential hidden underneath her beautiful looks. “Daughter’s Daughter” competed in Platform at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and in the main competition at the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival. Furthermore, it was selected as the closing film of the 21st Hong Kong Asian Film Festival. Now in 2025, Liu has received many offers from abroad and will soon work with the renowned filmmakers internationally. As she takes up more new challenges, one can expect her to deliver more outstanding performances.
