Austin Lin debuted in the film Somewhere I Have Never Travelled, garnering massive attention for his youthful good looks and natural acting. He beat more than 70,000 candidates in the audition for his role in Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) directed by Hollywood director Michael Bay. Lin won Best Supporting Actor at the 53rd Golden Horse Awards for his brilliant interpretation of a rebellious and unruly, yet tender-hearted teenager, Xiao Bo-zhi, in At Café 6 (2016). Lin’s role as someone living with severe OCD in the film iWEiRDO (2020) won him a nomination for Best Leading Actor at the 57th Golden Horse Awards. In 2023, Lin played a gay ghost named Mao-mao in Marry My Dead Body, using exaggerated body language and subtle emotional expression to give a vividly nuanced portrayal of the character’s feelings. The film grossed more than NT$360 at the box-office in Taiwan. The role also landed him nominations for Best Actor at the 25th Taipei Film Awards and Best Leading Actor at the 60th Golden Horse Awards. Lin seeks to make breakthroughs in his acting and to challenge himself by taking on different roles in everything from a rebellious teenager to a loving ghost. He hopes to give audiences a performance with many layers. Lin was the host of the 58th Golden Horse Award ceremony in 2021. The video of him singing as part of the opening of the ceremony left a deep impression on everyone. In the following year, Lin won Best Host in a Reality or Game Show for Three Piglets 3 at the 57th Golden Bell Awards. In 2023, Lin served as executive producer for the first time on Be with You, an impressive credit outside his acting work.
