Cabinet Proposes US$300 Cash Handouts in 2027 Budget To Share AI Boom Benefits

Taiwan President Lai Ching-te has provided an update to the Cabinet's budget proposal for 2027. The new proposal has been boosted to US$123 billion, including a record defense budget of US$35 billion and cash handouts of over US$300 to share the benefits of the country's growing GDP. The proposal requires legislative approval.

look at the average figures  
but look at those falling below the average  
not just focus on the highs of the tech industry  
but care for every family  
working hard to make a living.

REPORTER:  
The government statistics office has raised its GDP growth forecast for this year to over 11 percent, a 39-year high, amid soaring demand for AI hardware. Next year’s proposed 123 billion US dollar budget also includes 11.7 billion US dollars for children's savings accounts, plus a record defense spend of over 35 billion US dollars. The Cabinet is expected to send the final proposal to the legislature this month.
