Under Taiwan’s law, intentionally creating or spreading disaster rumors can result in prison time or fines.

Typhoon Damage Disinformation

REPORTER:
Police have arrested six people over an AI-generated image that falsely showed typhoon damage.

Authorities confirmed the image as fake after finding no damage at the scene. Five of those arrested say they only shared the image online, while the sixth person gave no explanation. In Taiwan, spreading false information about a disaster can be punished with up to three years in prison. Experts warn that such misinformation could also place additional burden on emergency responders.
