Taiwan Extends Paid Marriage Leave to 14 Days Starting October

Starting October 1, Taiwanese workers will be eligible for up to 14 days of fully paid marriage leave—an increase from the previous eight-day limit. Under the labor ministry's updated policy, employers will pay workers for the additional six days upfront before receiving government subsidies to offset the costs. The initiative is part of an 18-point policy strategy championed by President Lai Ching-te to tackle declining birth rates by easing early family-building burdens. While NGOs point to systemic issues like long work hours and high housing costs, the immediate leave extension offers newlyweds a welcome window to celebrate.
