Man Arrested After Brandishing Knife on Taipei Metro

A man was arrested after brandishing a utility knife during an argument on the Taipei Metro’s Sanying Line on Saturday. Police say the dispute began when one passenger bumped into another’s belongings. Other passengers intervened and called police. Officers later discovered the suspect was also wanted in connection with an unrelated assault case.

A man has been arrested after brandishing a weapon on the Taipei metro.  

The incident occurred on the Sanying Line on Saturday after one passenger apparently bumped into another’s belongings, triggering an argument. The man then pulled out a utility knife, but other passengers intervened and called police.  
The police arrested him, and found he was wanted for an unrelated assault case.

Shen Min-hsien (DEPUTY CHIEF, SANXIA POLICE PRECINCT):  
After verifying the suspect’s identity  
police found that he was also wanted in connection  
with an assault case and immediately arrested him.  
He will be handed over for further investigation  
on suspicion of making threats  
and for the outstanding assault warrant.

Metro police are increasing patrols, especially as the Sanying Line expands its service hours.
