The head of the only company in Taiwan that makes a key chemical with military uses has been killed in an apparent murder.
The man, surnamed Huang, was found by his son at his home in southern Taiwan on Friday. He had been bound and bludgeoned around the head. Huang's Jing Yuan Tungsten Technology Company holds a monopoly in Taiwan on APT, a chemical used to make tungsten products for the aerospace, military, semiconductor and electronics sectors. Police are investigating whether high demand for APT may have been a motive in his death.

The head of the only company in Taiwan to make a key chemical with military uses is dead, with police suspecting murder, but still looking at possible motives.
Huang Sheng-hsuan's Jing Yuang Tungsten Technology Company held a monopoly on Taiwan’s APT, used to make tungsten products key in the aerospace, military, semiconductors and electronics sectors. The material is so important that its main producer, China, restricts its export. The death of such a leading figure in such an important industry has sparked national security concerns. Police found injuries including head trauma and say blood loss led to Huang’s death. But they are waiting for an autopsy for further details, and are still investigating whether high demand for APT may have been a motive in a possible murder.
