Su Hao is a Taiwanese Born Singer Songwriter. - Taiwan Calling Ep7
Su Hao’s music brings a lot of vivid images and a lot of energy. The Taiwanese born artist mostly creates in his mother tongue when not working as a high school Mandarin teacher. A man and his guitar can gently sing the stories and experiences of Taiwanese people at different moments in time. “Taiwanese Imperial Serviceman” tells the story of young Taiwanese conscripted into the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II. They were made to sacrifice their youth as ‘military laborers’ who enjoyed less standing than a common solider. “1929” is inspired by of a military dependents’ village called Fuoguo Lane. Writing sad stories about the Chinese Civil War and the elderly people who survived couldn’t really capture their sense of liberation and relief. This song revisits their memories to provide new insight into this bygone era. “Kanvalan Kites Hovering High” is about the invisible string that tethers each of us to our hometown. The first song Su Hao ever wrote reminds us that there’s always a sense of longing for home even after we find success. He discovered that sometimes it’s only after leaving and looking back on Yilan that his friends can truly appreciate the beauty and warmth of the Lanyang Plain.
