What kind of island is Taiwan? Éric Faye is deeply interested in Asian history and culture. Since he is here for a residency, he will be visiting different places in Taiwan to get to know more about this land. Éric Faye, who is deeply touched by the relocation of cultural and artistic relics, pays a visit to the National Palace Museum, where he goes to the Cave Storage and imagines the time when the cultural relics were first moved there. He also visits the cultural relic restoration site, and feels as if he were part of this unique history of cultural relic relocation. Éric Faye also travels all the way to Orchid Island, Taiwan to visit the Tao writer, Syaman Rapongan. As writers, both find their inspiration from the lands they inhabit. Syaman shows Éric Faye around the Orchid Island to experience the culture of this offshore island. Taiwan is often not recognized as a sovereign state on the international stage. Yet Éric Faye is intrigued by Taiwan’s multiple identities. That is when he redefines this land. - Artist: Eric Faye Eric Faye, born in 1963 in Limoges, France, is the author of novels, short stories, essays and travelogues.
