The Thread: Story Behind AMA
When Yin Rou decided she wanted to start her own fashion brand, she knew exactly who to turn to: her grandmother, Ama. Yin Rou grew up wearing the dresses that Ama had hand made for her, and Ama had been sewing dresses since she taught herself at the age of 14. Along with Yin Rou’s friend Summer, the three set out make hand-made, environmentally-conscious clothing, using fabrics from Taiwan. Fittingly, the name of the brand is called AMA – (grandmother in Taiwanese). Their work is not easy but it is rewarding. When Yin Rou moves to Denmark, communication becomes a challenge. With Ama getting older, passing on her skills to Summer becomes a daily task. But AMA is more than just a grandmother, it’s more than just a fashion brand, it is a way of life for its founders and for its dedicated and growing clientele. _ Director: CHON Vera Producer: CHON Vera
