Kunqu Outlier: Yang Han-ju
Yang Han-ju is one of the top female actors in Taiwan's Kunqu opera scene. Following family tradition, Yang Han-ju initially studied mathematics. However, at the age of 20, she was captivated by the beautiful melodies of Kunqu opera and embarked on a completely different path from her family and friends. Switching to an artistic career, she became an outlier in her math-oriented family. In this documentary, Yang's story is a microcosm of the challenges faced by those who choose to pursue artistic achievement in Taiwan, where self-identity and social acceptance are put to the test.
