Banana: How This Tropical Fruit is Harvested in Taiwan Ep7
Bananas could be harvested all year round in Taiwan. During the 1960s, Taiwan was a major banana exporter, garnering a massive foreign exchange reserve and earning the moniker “Banana Kingdom.” To produce bananas with nice looks that appeal to customers, Taiwanese farmers would use “banana blankets” to protect their products from damage. As a therophyte plant, banana only yields once per life cycle, making rotation and fertilization management a crucial aspect in banana farming.
