Tribal Fishing and Making Rice Wine with The Amis - Luke Martin
In this episode of Chopstick Travel, we will be experiencing the rich culture, cuisine and traditions of the Amis tribe. The Amis are the largest tribe by number in Taiwan. Today we’re starting off at the Matai’an Ecological Reserve we will dive deep into Amis fishing culture before cooking up a unique hot pot indigenous to the Amis tribe. All along the east coast of Taiwan, you can feel the Amis culture. Today we’re stopping off at the beautiful rice paddies of Chishang on our way to BaYang restaurant. Here we will DIY a traditional Amis recipe for rice wine along with our host BaYang herself. To cap off the day, the community elders have arranged to perform for us the preservation of both song and dance from their Amis ancestors. This is just one unique experience of so many to be had in Taiwan, a land full of indigenous culture!
