US States Sue OpenAI Over ChatGPT Safety Concerns

REPORTER:
Eight US states are now suing OpenAI, alleging its AI platform ChatGPT encouraged self-harm and helped users plan violent acts.
Several US states including Arizona and Iowa filed separate lawsuits against the company, adding to a similar case brought by Florida in June.
The lawsuits allege OpenAI of misleading users about ChatGPT’s safety and endangering the health of their residents. They are seeking financial penalties, court orders requiring changes to ChatGPT, and restrictions on development of self-improving AI models.
The Canadian province of British Columbia is also suing OpenAI in connection to a mass shooting earlier this year.
