The survey also found more visitors are exploring historical sites, hiking destinations and southern Taiwan, reflecting growing interest in cultural and ecological tourism. Japan remained Taiwan's largest source of tourists, but travelers from the United States clocked the highest daily spending at nearly US$250 per person.

Results show that visitors to Taiwan and spending in the country both increased last year by 9 and 10% respectively compared to the previous year. While Japan remained the largest source of tourists, American visitors spent the most at nearly $250 US dollars per day. Accommodation, dining, and shopping remain the three highest areas for spending, but entertainment spending is on the rise. While most visitors still come for leisure, more are visiting historical sites, hiking, and visiting the south suggesting a growing interest in cultural and ecological tourism.
