International Traveler Subsidy

REPORTER:

Taiwan is encouraging international travelers by offering around $250 US dollars to tourists who make repeat visits.

The bonus includes about 150 dollars for a returning visitor, with another 100 dollars on top for bringing friends.

While available for all international travelers, the bonus is particularly aimed at Japanese tourists, who already make up one of Taiwan’s largest travel groups. Japan is lowering its passport application fee next month and Taiwan is hoping to capitalize on more tourists heading abroad.

The subsidy is part of the Tourism Administration's strategy as it hopes to attract 9.4 million foreign tourists this year.

The Tourism Administration will reward repeat international travelers with a nearly $250 US dollar incentive to help boost travel to Taiwan.

The bonus is split into about 150 dollars for returning, and with an additional 95 dollars for bringing friends.

Although the bonus is available for all international travelers, it is particularly targeted towards Japanese tourists, who already account for one of the largest travel groups. Since Japan will be lowering their passport application fee next month, Taiwan is hoping to attract even more repeat travelers.

The stipend is part of the Tourism Administration's larger strategy to reach their goal of attracting 9.4 million foreign tourists in 2026.
