Justice Ministry Looking Into 54 Cases of Suspected Election Fraud

Taiwan’s justice ministry is investigating 54 suspected cases of election interference and fraud ahead of local elections in November. Authorities have questioned more than 550 people and seized roughly US$2 billion in connection with the cases. 22 cases are specifically linked to suspected collusion with China.

When we look into a case we no longer view it in isolation. We look at the broader risks posed by criminal networks to national security. We must prevent illegal foreign funds from entering the country.

Authorities have questioned more than 550 people and seized roughly $2 billion US dollars in connection with the cases. They allegedly involve illegal foreign campaign contributions, money laundering, and gambling on election results, among other crimes. 22 of the cases are specifically tied to collusion with China. Investigators looked into 156 cases during the last major election in 2024.
