Cabinet Proposes Supplementary Budget
REPORTER:
The Cabinet has put forth a $19 billion US dollar supplementary budget proposal for 2026.
The legislature passed the 2026 general budget on Aug. 14 after numerous setbacks.
The Cabinet is proposing a supplementary budget to address the effects of the war in the Middle East, increase social welfare benefits and compensation for military personnel, civil servants and educators, and support post-disaster reconstruction efforts.
The supplementary budget proposal includes funds for Taiwan’s energy suppliers, and subsidies for farmers for fertilizer. Under the bill, the economy ministry will receive the bulk of the funding at around 13 billion US dollars, while the defense ministry will receive over four billion. The proposal will now go to the legislature for approval.
