Two Japanese Lawmaker Delegations Visiting Taiwan for Security Talks

Taiwan is hosting two delegations of Japanese lawmakers this week for discussions on regional security and defense. A 13-member delegation from the Japan Innovation Party, a coalition partner of Japan's ruling LDP, is led by senior party figure Baba Nobuyuki and includes meetings with Taiwan's foreign minister and with President Lai Ching-te. A separate seven-member delegation includes lawmaker Seki Hei, who was born in China and is a longtime advocate for Taiwan and Uyghur rights.

The first 13-member delegation from the Japan Innovation Party arrived on Monday. The party is a major coalition partner of Japan's ruling LDP. Their delegation is led by senior party figure Baba Nobuyuki and has meetings with Taiwan’s foreign minister and president Lai Ching-te. A second seven-member delegation includes UNIDENTIFIED PERSON, a strong advocate for both Taiwan and Uyghur rights.

The first group arrived on Monday. It’s a 13-member delegation from the Japan Innovation Party, a major coalition partner of Japan’s ruling LDP, led by senior party figure Nobuyuki Baba. A smaller seven-member delegation from a cross-party caucus founded in June includes UNIDENTIFIED PERSON, who has been sanctioned by Beijing over his comments on Taiwan and Uyghur rights.
