Taiwan and Japan should strengthen security cooperation amid rising regional tensions, according to a visiting Japanese parliamentary delegation.
Dub: Given the current international situation, I believe Japan is facing an unprecedented level of tension. Therefore, we agreed that Japan and Taiwan should continue working together on security issues. We should work together to contribute to peace in East Asia and ultimately stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
Baba is a former leader of the Japan Innovation Party. He is part of one of three Japanese delegations to visit Taiwan in recent days. His group is focused on expanding cooperation in the digital sector. They also met with President Lai Ching-te on Tuesday. Lai said the two sides will work to develop a supply chain that’s not dependent on China.

His delegation focused on expanding cooperation in the digital realm. Many Japanese diet members care immensely about Taiwan
Japan cannot play favorites on one end of the diplomatic. We can’t say we like one country more than another country.
Every diet member is acting on their own beliefs and their own convictions to understand international relations with other countries on behalf of Japan.
Japan is going to strengthen its diplomacy and its role internationally. Every trip is designed to strengthen Japan’s diplomatic capabilities.
Japan is looking to strengthen its own defensive powers.
Japan is also trying to strengthen its cybersecurity.
Cyber warfare is a new normal.
Japan needs to understand the new methods of warfare to respond to it properly.
Japan will use its advantage in technology to help, but Taiwan is strong in manufacturing. So we will be looking to collaborate in this area to strengthen collaboration.
Taiwan Relations and Taiwan Travel Act: We need to assess the possibility of that, but Japan cares greatly about security and stability in the Indo-Pacific, that is where our emphasis lies.
Philippines and Australia ties are also important. Taiwan is still an important partner for Japan. We are focused on economic development.
Innovation party’s coalition agreement with LDP does not specifically mention Taiwan.
As for Nippon Ishin no Kai—and indeed, in Japan more broadly—we are hearing terms like "drones" and "Usa-den" frequently these days. "Usa-den" is an acronym derived from the initial characters of Uchu (space), Cyber, and Denjiha (electromagnetic waves).
