Taiwan Sees 32nd Straight Month of Population Decline in August

Just under 7,500 children were born in Taiwan during August. It was the 32nd straight month of population decline as the birthrate stays low and the 65-and-over demographic grows.

Taiwan's population shrank by more than 10,000 in August, making it the 32nd month in a row to see deaths outnumber births.

The country welcomed just under 7,500 newborns in August, continuing a long-term decline in birth rates. As of the end of August, just over 60,000 children have been born in Taiwan this year. And the population continues to age. Around 20 percent of citizens are 65 or older, making Taiwan a super-aged society.
