New figures show the number of deaths in Taiwan this July was over twice the number of births. The trend of the monthly death count exceeding the number of births is not new, and shows signs of acceleration.

New statistics show that more than twice as many people died in Taiwan in July than were born. The country saw just under 8,000 births and around 17,000 deaths. It was the 66th month in a row where deaths have outnumbered births. And the decline of Taiwan’s population is accelerating, with the number of births in July down almost 12% from the same month last year.
