New statistics show that more than twice as many people died in Taiwan in July than were born. The country saw just under 8,000 births and around 17,000 deaths. It was the 66th month in a row where deaths have outnumbered births. And the decline of Taiwan’s population is accelerating, with the number of births in July down almost 12% from the same month last year.

The trend is not new: July is the 66th month in a row that deaths have outnumbered births. But the decline of Taiwan’s population is growing, with the number of births this July down almost 12% than what they were July last year.
