A midnight explosion followed by a roaring blaze in southern Taiwan has injured at least 13 people and damaged 11 nearby houses. The fire broke out on an empty plot in Tainan, where discarded industrial materials, including machine oil, had been stored. Three firefighters and several local residents were injured in the explosion and taken to hospital. At least 57 households have reported being affected. The Tainan city government says air quality remains normal and is investigating the cause of the incident.
