Taiwan’s defense ministry is reporting a sharp spike in Chinese military activity around the country. The ministry said it detected 19 Chinese aircraft near Taiwan in just a few hours on Thursday morning. That’s on top of another 19 aircraft spotted between Wednesday and Thursday morning. It comes as China's Xiangshan regional security forum wraps up in Beijing and just one week before Chinese President Xi Jinping is due to visit the US.
