Taiwanese prosecutors have indicted a retired Navy petty officer for allegedly spying for China. The suspect, surnamed Ma, is accused of working for Beijing since 2008. Prosecutors say he tried to recruit a retired major general and an active coast guard official to obtain classified information on Taiwan’s defense and maritime cooperation with the US and Japan. Both recruitment attempts failed. He now faces charges under Taiwan’s National Security Act and Anti-Corruption Act.

Taiwan prosecutors have indicted a retired Navy officer for allegedly spying for China.

The former petty officer, surnamed Ma, is accused of working for Beijing since 2008. Prosecutors say he tried to recruit a retired major general and an active Coast Guard official to get classified info on Taiwan’s defense and maritime cooperation with the US and Japan. Ma allegedly offered to pay them for information. Both recruitment attempts were unsuccessful, and Ma is facing charges of violating Taiwan's National Security and Anti-Corruption laws.
