Five days of combat readiness drills are underway in Taiwan. The country’s defense ministry says the exercises aim to test the military’s responsiveness and strengthen its ability to rapidly change from peace- to war-time operations.

Five days of combat readiness drills are underway in Taiwan ahead of the country’s Han Kuang exercises in August.

This is a smaller-scale drill held ahead of Han Kuang.
We actually have a range of new weapon systems.
These new systems can demonstrate
how to showcase our capabilities
during the Han Kuang exercises.
I think this will be the focus of this
immediate combat readiness drill.

Taiwan’s defense ministry says the exercises aim to test the military’s responsiveness and strengthen its ability to rapidly change from peace- to war-time operations. They come as Taiwan sees an uptick in Chinese military activity. The defense ministry reported 23 Chinese military aircraft, seven warships, and five official vessels operating near the country from Sunday to Monday.
